the script from erickson to a overweight women : "during this week overeat, doing so carefully and willingly, and overeat enough to support 260 pound, the women becoming slimm or reduce the weight without any problem.
My question is, how can overeat and dont be fat? |

The idea was not to overeat permanently but to make the act of overeating a chore. Erickson often did what is called "prescribing the symptom." This not only takes the pleasure out of the problem but shows the client that they can affect the problem. The idea is that if they can control their weight by eating more then obviously they can control it by eating less.
This is not nor was it ever a script. Erickson worked differently with each client. |

Correct, and requiring no further comment. However and as an interesting side note, Weight Watchers often asks clients to eat a certain amount daily, and the client finds it more than they can comfortably handle. Point is, healthy food intake is important for the proper functioning of the body and thus loss of excess weight. The idea that the only reason for obesity is overeating is foolish and incorrect. |

could this time of suggestion be applied to Anorexia (spelling, I know!)? Or are eating disorders/deseases too physically grounded to work with?

I do not advise working with anorexia unless you are a licensed physician (psychiatrist)or licensed clinical psychologist. It is one the MOST DIFFICULT mental, physical and emotional ailments and often leads to the death of the anorexic person. For a non-licensed therapist to treat such a case can lead to civil and criminal lawsuits. Charges of malpractice, negligence, practicing medicine without a licence. practicing psychology without a licence can be filed and a prison term can result. In addition, a civil suit for damages can take away everything you own or hope to own in the future. Please don't be mislead by any other advice! Hi Tom
I normally am some what more open in my information dissemination, yet anorexia which is a symptom of body dimorphic disorder, is and can be an incredible complex web of psycho-emotional binds and double binds, which takes a lot of effort to keep track of, the answer to you question to your question, is yes, yet you need the skill, and the educational merits, that would allow you to be competent, unless you are a professional, or are being supervised in conduction, with a professional, then it really is best to not go anywhere near, something that is well over your head and skill level.

In another case Dr. Erickson asked his client to increase he weight by five pounds and now having proved to herself that she was in control of her weight he suggested that she lower her weight one pound at a time until she achieved her ideal weight.
Reading any Erickson book or book about Erickson will make you a better physiotherapist even if you do not use many Ericksonian techniques. |

Books on Milton Erickson. I just recently got an excellent book titled "Milton H. Erickson, An American Healer". I got it from his daughter Betty Alice Erickson when I participated in a workshop with her.
This was written by her and some of her family members about their husband and father. It is an excellent view into Milton's life and his concepts about living and healing. An excellent addition to the library of anyone who has an interest in hypnosis and any other books about Milton. |
