By Linda Potter For the Tracy Press
Published Oct. 8, 2005, in Our Town for the Tracy Press, CA, US.
When it comes to facilitating past-life regressions, it never ceases to amaze me how much I learn through the clients I see. Of course, with any of us, we bring into our workplace our own existing expertise. But, as most of us would agree, there is always something new to learn no matter our level of expertise. I suppose it is a kind of school is always in session philosophy.
Walking through life this way lends itself to some great learning if we pay attention.
The topic of ghosts is not something I was ever drawn to. I didnt have much of an understanding of what they were, how they existed or if I should be afraid of them or not. I suppose, like most people, I had a healthy dose of being afraid of the unknown when it came to the topic of ghosts. But, as with so many things in life, when the mystique is taken away, the fear goes right along with it.
The day of Susans past-life regression, I had no idea that I would be learning about the world of ghosts. Just as Susan didnt realize that she would gain an understanding of her past lives that would carry her to emotional healing.
Susans ghostly journey
The farmhouse was set on a knoll among the rolling hills of early 1900s America. Hanna lived there with her two daughters and her husband. They had a happy life. There were other farmhouses in this community, and they were set apart from each other by meadows, occasional brooks and fields of tall grass and wildflowers. It was a scene right out of a story book.
Susan came into the regression room looking for the past life that had been the cause of her great fear of dogs. She made the comment that dogs couldnt be trusted and went on to say that even when she saw any type of dog on the television, she would have to look away. It was quite apparent that dogs were terribly frightening to Susan.
Susan was very relaxed into a state of hypnosis when she entered into this past life as Hanna. She expressed how beautiful her surroundings were and spoke of her life as the housewife of a farmer in glowing terms. She loved cooking for her children and caring for the chickens and other livestock on their farm. It was a busy and demanding life at times, but very rewarding to Hanna.
Hanna had been visiting her neighbor for a good part of the afternoon and realized it was later than she thought and began her walk back to the farmhouse. She decided to take a shortcut through the fields and meadows because the sun was setting soon.
Hanna could now see the lights of her house up on the knoll and was eager to get home and make dinner for her family.
Suddenly, fear swept over Hanna as she heard growling in the tall grass. She began to run toward home as fast as her legs would carry her. She tripped over a tree branch and fell, face down. As she rose to her feet, the growling became louder and the last memory Hanna had was the face of a wolf coming right at her.
Hanna died from the wolf attack. Her soul left her body, rising toward the light of the other side. But, instead of her soul traveling into the light, Hanna floated just above her body, refusing to leave the earthly plane. She said she wasnt ready to leave that life because her family still needed her. Her children were waiting for their dinner and her husband would be expecting her. She explained how she floated just above the ground and into her farmhouse in a bit of confusion. She stood in her kitchen where no one acknowledged her presence.
She was troubled by this and when no one recognized her, she picked up a pot from the counter and threw it across the kitchen, startling everyone.
Hanna stayed in that farmhouse as a ghost for many years. She felt an emotional tie to the children and wanted to be there for them. It wasnt until the children were grown and had moved out on their own that Hanna chose to go into the light of the other side. She finally felt that her job was done, here on earth.
After her session, Susan understood where her fear of dogs had come from. It was clearly from a life in another place and another time.
Some of what I have learned is that people become ghosts because they are tied to their earthly existence in some way. They have unfinished business and are not ready to cross into the light of the other side or Heaven if you will yet.
In life, we all know people that are wonderful and others that are quite unpleasant. When people become ghosts, they carry the same attributes they had while still alive. Some ghosts are pleasant while others are irritable and annoying.
Ive discovered that the world of ghosts is really not that complicated. I know that there is more to learn, but it is not so much the mystery that it once was. In fact, Susans ghostly experience has been quite enlightening.

This is a very interesting post of past life regression. I have used this technique with some of my clients very successfully. I feel that this is a symbolic process. These symbols can help us understand and heal.
I very much enjoyed the viewpoint on ghosts. An interesting and reasonable and straight forward concept of the subject. Thoughts to ponder.
During Hanna's story of her death by K9 she defines the symbol as a wolf, this is what she believes she saw. Makes me think Susan has read too much "Little Red Riding Hood".
In the past several hundreds of years of North American history by red men and white men there has not been a documented case of a healthy wolf attacking and killing a person.
Every day in North America there are deaths by dog attacks daily all over US and Canada. This is a point of clarification about wolves. Hanna's story is valid and holds with the symbolism. I also assume that Susan was able to be cured of her K9 fear by a competent Hypnotherapist who was able to allow Susan to work with the symbolism that was most beneficial to her. |
