Are there any specific advantages in using Ericksonian methods of hypnotherapy?

"You Say" His methods are not as easy to consistently reproduce with good results as other, more direct methods.
"I think that's more of the responsibility of the practitioner!" and not the methods- I think you might have had some crap teachers - so your opinions might be based on poor levels of application.. I am very well grounded in both classical and Ericksonian hypnosis- so have counter experiences- regarding results- yet I also work in some what of a different way to many change works- in that I only get paid for my rates of success - so I have to do a good job or I don't get paid-

My statements are opinions based on my training, experience and attitude. Just like everyone else here. :)
While Erickson was good at what he did, hypnosis is an art. His methods are not as easy to consistently reproduce with good results as other, more direct methods.

First of all lets get one thing out of the way- Erickson before he used indirect methods was trained my Professor Clark Hull- who only used direct hypnosis- Milton used direct hypnosis for some 20 years before he started to look at other ways of using language- and he was very good at what he did- in that day and age.. it takes a lot of skill to master the art in the way that Milton did- and he made some really good grounds by making hypnosis as an acceptable modality to be used with in the medical profession-
Get on to answering the question- by learning and mastering both classical and Ericksonian hypnosis you have the flexibility to work with the so call 20% of people who it is thought can't put in to hypnosis- also mastering Ericksonian hypnosis allow you to not have to use scripts- and you are trained in the art of language implication-
So you have an understanding of how language works at the subjective level- which means you can work on a deep level- they are lot of other ways where mastering Ericksonian hypnosis- like in education- business- law- negotiating- you can also use the frame works of Ericksonian hypnosis- to help create presentations- and in such away that you would not know hypnosis was being used- the Erickson frame works can be applied to other psychotherapy based modalities- and aid in crating better results- and so..
Pat not all change workers are the same- and credit should be given to the people that have taken the time and effort both personally and financially to help make peoples lives better.. |

The only advantage I could come up with is: it is currently more widely accepted in the general medical/counseling community. Where results are not as important as credentials. |
