Hi everyone, I'm trying to go into somnambulism via self-hpynosis. I've gone through a few books on it that all basically say "visualise, relax, visualise, relax" and I get that far but I come deepener time nothing really happens and this is after going through Ormond McGill's 'Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnosis' to give myself that bit of an edge. I'm putting some cash aside to get Michael C. Anthony's stage hypnosis university DVD'a but knowing my luck I'll still be at some halfway point.
If anyone can give me some solid advice, short of seeing a hypnotist to aid my own self-hypnosis as I've failed to find one, I'd really appreciate it. |

Absolutely correct brighter-tomorrows ! I am a non English speaker and listening to recordings downloaded from websites was not working for me because I was not engaged with these. So I asked myself what is most of my self talk in ? and now I have created 2 recordings in my native language that may not even be conventionally Hypnotic and are more like loud self talk but hey they work for me..and that is the goal isn't it ? Slowly you improvise ...I feel it is more like acting for yourself whereby you are both the audience and the actor.

How are you doing your self hypnosis? The best results are (in my experience) acheived using personalised recordings. Using pre-recorded material with no personal connection will only ever take you so far. Get your self a voice recorder and record yourself reading the scripts that you've brought. You can easily match the tone and pace of the professional recording if you are in any doubt. Then rather than word for word, insert your own name and add personal touches. Use imagery for deepening that you resonate with. You should find making the recordings fun and it will almost certainly give you better results. Obviously you are then totally responsible for any hypnotic or post hypnotic suggestions that you give yourself and for using the recording at an appropriate time! |

Investigate a city that you are going to visit on vacation. You can possibly find a Hypnotherapist there for a session or two while you are in town. There is a listing database of Hypnotists from all over the world here: http://hypnosisonline.com/listing.asp |

I can't get one anywhere close enough to where I live but thanks a lot for your advice anyway. It does help me put things in perspective and is appreciated. |

Save yourself a lot of time and energy... go see a Hypnotist. You may be over thinking and over reaching when all you need to do is get into self hypnosis. Any good Hypnotherapist can teach you self hypnosis in one visit.
Depth is not really something that makes it work better... in fact these days there is a common perception among professionals that depth does not matter. Do a search in this forum on "Depth of Trance" and you will find discussions about it.

Thanks for you reply. Do you have any advice on where I should look? So far most self-hypnosis I've come across seems nearly exactly the same. |

Find the technique that will work best for you - there are a LOT of them out there.
Assess what you expect hypnosis to feel like to you. |
