 Hi,
Attended a very interesting conference here in WA last week.
The main speaker was a well informed Hypnotist from the area. His general conclusion.....
hypnosis is unregulated and concequently not worthy of calling itself a profession.
hypnosis, once demystified is not a difficult skill to aquire. Rather just a person who goes through a simple process of prescribed stages,.
We were shocked, putting down hypnotists, how dare he.
He did go on to sing the praises of hypnosis, just wanted to highlight we are not IN a position of power, merely put OURSELVES into this position.

Hello Andy, The speaker was uninformed and lacking any research! True, hypnosis is not a profession.
It is simply a natural state of mind produced in a great variety of ways. Hypnotic induction can be taught to anyone in a few hours (many brief courses only teach induction for far too much money)
Hypnotherapy is a defined occupation/professional
title in the United States Dept. of Labor's
Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT).The Definition was created by me and John Kappas
and was included only after three years of struggle
against other professional groups.
A few years later, I wrote the definition for
Hypnotherapy Training Program which was included in the United States "Directory of Instructional Programs when I appeared at the hearings in Washington, D.C.(against strong opposition from the Medical and pschology professions) I was successful in having "Hypnotherapy Training" listed under
the classification of "Human Services" and not
"Medical Services". All state approved hypnotherapy schools were listed in the manual which lists every instructional program offered by all accredited
colleges,universities and state appoved vocational schools. The manual is published every five years.
Forward this to your unnamed "speaker", perhaps he would like to comment on his lack of knowledge and
discover that "knowledge IS power" He can go to any library and ask to see the state DOT and look under the title of Hypnotherapist to discover that those of us that are well-trained and have acquired sufficent experience are indeed " Professional".

BINGO, my thoughts exactly.
Theres no such thing as bad publicity. I can guarentee that he is the talk of WA for quite sometime amongst hypnosis followers.

Little more info than your other post regarding this :)
Might depend on what he considers "hypnosis". If he is talking about achieving the state of hypnosis, maybe he's right. But otherwise, he's just trying to get talked about? |
