I was considering Adding to my Hypnotherapy education and started scanning the websites for available distant learning classes. As I searched I realized, which wasn't difficult, that I didn't know the validity of these courses. My question is "Is there any websites or what ever that inspect, test, verify etc. the validity of these courses? Is there a governing body that checks these things? If not, then it would be a good opportunity for some enterprising person to have a new website. Thanks in advance to anyone who replys to this post.

Try checking with the IMDHA (International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association..if they approve it, you can count on it being top of the line.

I am a California certified hypnotherapist with advanced, clinical, medical and hypnoanesthesia certificates. Your question about certification has also been one of mine. As I understand it, in the State of California, a school can be a "state certificated" school, and those who graduate from the school are certificated through the school by the State of California.
I have been trying to find out if any schools give examinations which would give a person a "state certification" on their own merits. So far, I have learned that most states do not have a requirement for State Certification. However, I keep hearing that California will soon require 300 hours of training in order to obtain a certificate.
I basically contacted the area in our State Capitol which deals with certification for secondary and post-secondary school credentials, as to the qualifications of the schools in which I was interested. The most they could tell me was whether the school of my inquiry was in good standing with them

In an attempt to answer your question.... No ... I do not know of any verification proceedure in ref. distant learning in hypnosis. As you probably know very few states have any requirements and anyone teaching hypnosis can certify that you completed their course. I believe the state of Illinois has a licensing law and the state of Michigan has a lic. procedure to licence training facilities which include hypnosis as well as many other schools. I don't know if this is of any help to you.
