Do any of you incorporate "focusing" as an adjunct to hypnotherapy? Do you know what I'm referring to by focusing? If any one has experience of this, I'd love to hear about it. You can email me at fnograf@msn.com or just post to the message board if you feel others might be interested.
Thank you. Linda

Hi Linda. Could you post full details of the books you mentioned including the ISBN #s please ? Something to try - Ask someone to FOCUS on the end of a pen, a spot on the wall .. the more mudane the spot, the better probably. Ask two questions - 1. What are you thinking when you are keeping your eyes fixed on ..whatever it is. [Wait for a few seconds for a repsonse.] 2. What are you feeling while you are staring at .. whatever it is. [wait for a response.] Discuss what transpired. I'll be very interested to read what members discover. The repercussions are interesting too.

I'm referring to a technique "invented" by Eugene T. Gendlin at U of Chicago. It's too long to get into on a message board. You can find the focusing institute online thru one of the search engines. I'd not heard of it being used with hypnosis, just thought there might be some possibilities as it is a very powerful technique. Obviously, I'm not using the word "focus" in the general sense that we use it every day. Gendlin has two books out on the subject; one called "Focusing" for the layman and "Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy: A Manual of the Experiential Method" written for the professional. I've read both and found the latter to be much better at really showing what "focusing" means. Hope I'm not boring everyone to death with this. Just wanted to throw the question out there, just in case. Linda

It can be interpreted in different ways and perhaps there are some of us who are indeed using the technique however it may be called by a different term. Please describe the technique in detail and then we can better determine if we have or have not used it in sessions.

focusing .. depends on how you intend to use the term. Most activities require focus .. aiming @ a target/goal requires focus, sufficent & continuing focus.. persistence too, perhaps over a long period of time or a patterns of relaxing & refocusing.
