Posted - 12/30/2006 : 11:09:23 PM I need to be hypnotized by a professional and taught self hypnosis. However I have heard that to be effective I must first be able to relax. I was hoping I could use self hynosis to relax. I DON'T RELAX, I've not found a way to make myself do so. I need to learn self hypnosis because my life is sliding downhill, for personal problems I would be able to fix. So, can I be hypnotized by another person if I cannot relax? If not, I'm in real trouble. |

By no means is relaxation a prerequisite to hypnosis. Many inductions start with relaxation as it is conducive to an altered state of consciousness and general well being, however there are countless inductions that do not touch upon relaxation at all. Any competent hypnotherapist will be able to help you and I'll take you one further, it is in my opinion that it would be counter productive to use relaxation as an induction in your specific case.

The short answer is yes, yet as it’s your mind and body, so just use it, can you count backward from 34 to 1? I am guess so, what is 5 multiplied 7? Did you work it out? In doing so you just completed a conscious and an unconscious process, now if you can do that, then you can do a much easier task which in built into your body by design which is to relax.
Now if you have a lot of mind chatter which seems to be the most common attribute this I can’t relax, Then use this mantra, which comes it two versions, one is from Richard Bandler Co-creator of NLP and that is Repeat this over and over until the chatter stops. Shut the F**K up and do it over and over till the mind chatter stops, or just use this “STOP” once you have a little space in the way you are talking to yourself, then you will be able to give yourself instruction, like relax and soften.
Just remember its your mind and body and its your imagination, the imagination is the seat, of creating the states that you are looking for, I assume then you have some time in your life had so relaxation, it may only have been a few minutes, yet it’s there, go in side and find all or as many time like that, and as you relive them times, your body will automatically, learn what it needs to do.
Spend only 7 minutes at a time, and remember real times when you where relaxed, and I am sure you can imagine what relaxation is like, so also imagine just what relaxation is like for you.

Now if you are going to reply, stop making excuses, about now being able to do something as simple as relax, now if it was something like remember a page of text from a book , then there are limitation to that, yet being able to relax, come down to just doing it. Breathe very slowly and deeply for 5-9 minutes, the only response the body as to doing that is to relax.

Unfortunately I have tried running followed by hot tub followed by progressive muscle relaxation, and I still don't relax very much or at all. To sleep I often have to use sleeping pills and even then it's an hour+. This is why I'm ready to take more drastic measures, and am prepared to spend several hundred dollars if need be on hypnotherapy.
You asked how I knew this could solve my problems. I've talked to a hypnotherapist over the phone and she says that insomnia should be able to be fixed. My other main problems are motivation and organization. I do not posess these skills and am not doing the things I need to like keeping up in classes or finding a second job.
This takes me back to my original question which is- can I be hypnotized without relaxing first. What's the verdict? |

Lets jump a head, just a little, lets say that you had already learnt to relax, and that you already knew, how to do self-hypnosis what you being different, in that time?
You don’t relax, how do you know? Do you sleep?
Whinny, go for a very, very long walk or a run, and then sit in a hot bath. Then remember that feeling. Relaxation 101, if you can’t do something in your imagination, then find away in the real world to create the desired effect.
