Let me first say that I have never had much luck with either self hypnosis or twice being hypnotized by a professional. Still the subject has always interested me because of the potential it has. The ultimate self help devise would clearly be one that could reprogram an individual on the subconscious level in a short period of time. For sometime I have been impressed with the writings of Leslie M. Lecron. In particular his theories of communicating with the subconscious via ideomotor responses. It's potential for psychoanalization seems light years ahead of Freud to me. At any rate, I decided to take Mr. Lecron's theories one step further. If one can communicate with the scm via ideomotor response, can one also request and obtain an "agreement" for future behavior? Using for example, a pendulum, use the following steps: 1. Ask the scm if changing certain behavior is ok (to make sure there is no underling strong reason for it). If yes, go to step 2. 2. Ask the scm "will you agree that in the future we will (name behavior). If yes, go to step 3. 3. Please confirm by signaling yes that beginning now (or name time) that we will (name behavior). I have tried this technique only on myself but its results have absolutely been unbelievable. I have used it for the topic of weight loss and found immediately a loss of desire for livelong foods I have loved and have now lost 10 pounds with no effort whatsoever. I am 43 but have never been able to break the 10 percent body fat level even in my 20s. I am now at 8 percent! This is agreement vs. suggestion. No trance was used at all. Any thoughts members have along these lines would be appreciated.

Posted - 05/29/2003 : 11:40:45 PM From: GHarris Sent: 11/15/2000 12:26 AM Becky, my theory is different from simple hypnosis because it doesn't involve any relaxation at which requires attempting to induce a "trance". You are not making a simple suggestion hoping the scm will accept it because the cm is relaxed and concentration is increased due to lack of other stimulus removed. I am aware that ideomotor response is used by some hypnotherapists to make sure the scm is willing to accept a suggestion but this is more. My process requires the scm to agree to except the modified behavior. I don't know why all hypnotist don't use some form of ideomotor testing. Let's say, for example, that a hypnotist wishes to induce into a subject increased confidence to help overcome shyness. But suppose the scm has, in its opinion, a very good reason for shyness. To the scm, shyness is a defense system to protect against possible rejection (which to the scm may have equated to survival based on infant learning in which the infant relies on parents for total survival and rejection would equal death). This suggestion would likely be ignored. But simple ideomotor testing would detect this and remove this "defense" system so as to allow the modified behavior of increased confidence. I have not done any further testing as I only posting my message last night. I will keep anyone interesting advised of progress.
