Posted - 12/07/2005 : 7:32:20 PM I went to a hypnotherapist after "hitting a brick wall" in conventional talk therapy. So far I've seen some positive results, but not quite what I'd hoped.
I feel like my concious mind is still too active. The only time I feel it is really inactive is when I feel like I've drifted off towards sleep. These periods are almost always in my self-hypnosis sessions away from the hypnotherapist.
When in session with him, most of my mental images seem forced. Often I feel like I'm "making up" visualizations. It feels like otherwise I'd never "see" or "imagine" any of the things he wants me to see (i.e. early times I felt a cerrtain way, etc.).
Is this normal? Can I go farther? So far the only real success I've had is with stopping nail biting. Although this is important, it's nowhere near as important as some of my other goals like controlling my eating and drinking.

Posted - 12/07/2005 : 9:55:30 PM I am curious as to why you ask questions of us, when you have a therapist to consult locally? Nobody can outguess the person you are using at present, and shouldn't try to.. Only the ignorant will attempt to offer advice which should be coming from your own therapist. Why not ask him? Perhaps what you hope for is unrealistic. |
