I'm pretty new to hypnosis although I have tried a few sessions of hypnoanalysis for general anxiety which just went through my memories as a random chain of thoughts.
Before continuing with it I'd like to know more of what to expect in terms of therapeutic results. Hypnosis seemed a good way of enhancing the process of changes my beliefs about myself. (I started with Rational Emotive Bahavioural Therapy).
I know I'm being too impatient in expecting near instant results but what I want to understand is if a stage hypnotist can make someone belief they're a chicken in one session, why can't a hynotherapist make you belief you're a normal confident person or even a superconfident guy who can do anything in just as short a time??
Does the belief only work temporarily after which they snap out of it, with permanent belief changes taking more sessions? If so why can't the hypnotherapist install a trigger like stage hypnotists do that says 'whenever you see a girl who you fancy you will become superconfident, all anxiety will fade away and you will go and say hello to them' in place of 'when you hear me clap you will believe you are butt naked'??
If hypnosis really does work like you see on stage why isn't everybody getting hypnotherapy to overcome the inhibitions that everybody has?? |

Unfortunately, Stage Hypnosis really puts people off trying out Hypnotherapy. The explanation of the difference between the two is lengthy and certainly when I see someone I would ask them what they think Hyno is and try to dispell any myths about the subject. If I were you I'd try to find a good book about Hypnotherapy and then you may be more informed about the decisions you take. |

You have told us nothing of what you are being treated for, or the qualifications of the therapist. You are also asking us to outguess your therapist for you without any indication that any problem exists except in your head.....
The terms you use suggest that you are being treated by a psycologist not a hypno therapist, please confirm this, and ask specific questions if you can. A psycologist uses a different aproach to us, and we don't get involved...anthony. |
