I've just obtained a copy of this. A lot of his tales look like parables to me, which begs some interesting questions about how men become divine.

No, look, with respect that wasn't my point.
Jesus, for want of a less emotionally-charged example, was very keen on parables. I simply wondered if parable is the same sort of thing as Erickson's teaching tales. Could it be that people like Jesus used some similar technique? After all, some fairly odd things were happening around him that could, in theory, be induced via trance. Odd things certainly happened around Erickson, after all!
I wondered if Jesus and others used conversational hypnotic techniques to influence others to follow them, like Erickson used them to heal the mind. Today, we're cynical and "postmodern" but 2000 years ago, I'd imagine the average person was a lot less worldly wise.

Well, after all parables contain hidden messages which due to their nature, and the way they are passed on, are timeless. However, I fail to see the connection between parables and divinity? Not all who tell stories in parable form are divine are they? Anthony.... |

No, it just struck me ass odd that phophets have always used parables. Erickson's tales are parables. He was a seriously good trance inducer. It seems logical to suggest that the ancients were doing something similar.
It just struck me as interesting and something to toss into the ring.
