Want to thank everyone who responded to my post about how best to do hypnosis, limited as I was to 15 minutes per client at a recent Health Fair. Another Hypnotherapist was also scheduled so I wanted a different approach than hers: she used a conditioning tape, headphones, and trance goggles. I wanted a non-electronic version to convey the hypnotic experience. For any of you who find yourselves in a similar time constraint, or who want to perfect working quickly with a client, or who may be asked to demonstrate hypnosis to a potential client - here is what I did:
First, I had the client recline in my chair with their head well supported. Second, I asked if they were willing to be hypnotized and got their consent. Third, I asked permission to touch them. Fourth, I did a Spot Gaze induction. Fifth, as soon as they closed their eyes, I pressed the heal of my hand down sharply and quickly on their forehead while saying, "SLEEP!" This produced the "startle" response of a rapid induction. Sixth, I immediately began rolling their head back and forth while giving suggestions to relax like a loose, limp rag doll noticing if there was any resistance in their neck (usually, there wasn't). Seventh, to help them relax even further, I did quick deepening techniques. Eighth, I was well prepared with Dave Elman's famous methods of convincing the client they were hypnotized by having them count aloud from 1 to 5 and then losing the numbers. Only one person made it past 4. Or, I would have them forget their home telephone number. Every convincer I used worked beautifully. Ninth, if time permitted, I used Carl Banyan's post-hypnotic suggestion that for the rest of the day, every time they saw the color red it would really stand out, more vibrant than usual, to remind them of their hypnosis session. Tenth, finally I gave a powerful, beneficial suggestion for increased self-love saying no human being in the history was ever or would ever be them. That they were here by Divine Appointment to express themselves uniquely and to know, once and for all, that their life had beautiful and vital meaning.
With a minute or two for follow-up after hypnosis was terminated, I asked if they were surprised when the convincers worked. They all said they saw the numbers in their mind, but were just unable to say them. I explained that hypnosis was an agreement that the client be open to and accept beneficial suggestions from a trained hypnotherapist who was experienced in helping people attain their goals.
I made many appointments that day for private sessions!
Perhaps this information for a 15 minute session will help you. Thanks again for the many ideas you contributed! |
