This is the problem with televised material - we cannot see what happened before or after - and we just get a selected "cut" which appears perfect and complete. But seldom is either.
Derren is a consumate showman though - fantastic delivery.

Interesting - but meaningless.
As Richard said too many unknowns.
By the way - why does he answer "no" to her question "Is it dark in color?"
The object seems to be as dark as anything could get. |

Each person is hand picked for their suggestibility. You don't see the background selection process or the failures.
You don't see if there is any planting of suggestions when they met. You just see her there and the camera starts rolling. He will have lead her to the "sticky stone".
He uses distraction techniques to throw the audience: hand on shoulder, eye contact. Some of these may have been anchored with the suggestions when they met (which again you don't see).
When you have an authority figure (I'm assuming she knows who he is and what he does) and a camera pointed at you, you are in hypnosis before you say anything; your suggestibility is increased.
There's probably numerous other techniques disguised in his in very clever art. |
