I have seen people (entertainers) do this trick often
and the same principle applies to laying/walking on a bed
of nails.It looks impressive, though the scientific
explanation is simple

Fire walking is well-understood scientifically. Embers, though indeed very hot, have a very low thermal conductivity; it takes a significant amount of time for them to transfer their heat into your foot. Two things can interfere with this and cause severe burns:
(1) Sharp edges increase pressure on a small area and thus improve thermal conduction. That is why firewalking always takes place over raked (glowing) embers instead of pointy coals. (You cannot firewalk over barbecue briquettes!)
(2) Moisture improves thermal conductance by quite a bit. It is therefore very important that the feet stay dry. People often go into a trancelike state to firewalk in order to stay relaxed: sweaty feet = bad burns. But a trance is not physically necessary.
So: it's real, and it's impressive, but it ain't magic. Enjoy...
