HI,

I am new to this forum, and have a few questions / comments.
First I would like to know if any of you have had hypnosis for smoking?
Did it work?
How many sessions are needed?

I had gone to a seminar at a local place previously for the "Stop Smoking Seminar" and while I was relaxed and soaking it all in, I lit up not more than 10 minutes after leaving. They offered a guarantee, so I returned 2 months later when they were back in town. but.....
I'M STILL A SMOKER, and very much wish not to be!!!
Would a one on one session help me better?

I've seen these talk shows where they hypnotise someone ONE TIME and they never had the desire again. Is that too good to be true, and where can I find someone that good????
Thanks for any help

Hi,
Smoking is very harmful to the health. Quiting smoking can be a real challenge,But it can be easily quit by hypnosis.Hypnotherapy helps you in relaxing and concentrate more and are more willing to listen to suggestion such as giving up smoking.

I hope you found the right match for you and are now a non-smoker.

Hypnosis definitely helps in quitting smoking. I used to be an avid smoker and couldnt even dream of quitting smoking as I was too much addicted to it. I just loved the smell of cigarette and would usually finish 2 to 3 packs daily. But as it started affecting my health, I realized I need to quit it before its too late. Even my fiance encouraged me to quit smoking. I tried several ways like nicotine patches but nothing seemed to work.

Then I found out about hypnosis. I looked up for it and it seemed interesting to me. And then I began my search for best hypnotic center that could really help me. Gladly, I found about http://www.melbournecognitivehypnotherapy.com.au/. They provide private sessions and each session lasts for an hour. After few sessions, I was able to get some results so I continued with the program and now its been 2 years that I am smoke-free.

So yeah, my vote definitely goes for quit smoking hypnosis.

Personal on-to-one consultations would take into account your individual issues related to smoking.

You can try these self help tips to prepare your mind: http://www.clinicalhypnotherapy-cardiff.co.uk/how-to-stop-smoking-tips-1/

Then I went and had lasar therapy for the smoking. The first time I did this it did not work. The second it seemed to work much better.
After leaving the lasar smoking place I was of course rather agitated because I was 'losing a long time friend' tobacco. So I pulled out a herb cigerette and lit it up. God it was awefull. a few days of these though and I found I could live with the taste. Then I did things like I would avoid the places that I normally lit up. Or I would do things with my hands as I came out of buildings. When I got up in the morning I changed my routine a little. All little things like that helped me. I still feel to this day that the thing that helped me the most was those herbal cigerettes.

Also a few things I noted on the addiction.
1) if you could put off lighting up for 10 minutes then you would likley not need to do it any more. the desire goes away very quickly
2) You will find there will be bad times for you. times when you are ready to give up. They will be pretty standard times. Something like 1 week, 3 weeks, 3 months, 6 months 1 year 18 months and so on. Do not believe because you have gone almost 2 years you are free because you are not. I have not had a smoke since 1991 and I still to this day have cravings and sometimes dream about it. But it becomes rarer and rarer. And the cravings become much easier to deal with.

I was interested in this as well. I will probably try it out soon based on the results I've seen so far! I'll post back here when I get results :)

Couldn't agree more.

Success depends on a number of factors:

1. A desire to stop smoking.
2. The degree to which the hypnotherapy addresses the underlying cause of the smoking habit.
3. The perception the client has of the approach used in the session.
4. A clear focus on being a non-smoker as core to the session.
5. A perceptive, skilled and experienced hypnotherapist.
6. A follow-up session.

Kind regards,
Anxietymelbourne Posted - 10/10/2013 : 06:41:15 AM
Surveys in America have shown that most people will quit after the first session or Hypnotherapy, but 25% will start again in the first 12 months. They conclude that after six sessions the success rate after 12 months is around 85%.
You will find out in the first session that it is not nicotine that creates your cravings, just the subconscious habit of wanting a cigarette.
Get rid of the habit and get rid of the cravings.
Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy is a cheap and effective way to become a healthy non-smoker.

I realy like the idea of using EFT in that way, I use self hypnosis around motivation. Many people who claim to want to give up actually aren't convinced so giving them tools to increase motivation is a really positive approach. Everyone has a choice of who to see as a client but I would rather help more people than worry about a success rate number and turn people away.
brighter-tomorrows Posted - 01/23/2012 : 04:34:14 AM
As with other posters the most important factor is personal motivation. If this is lacking even slightly then chances of success are reduced so I normally work with the client to increase motivation. Once motivation is established, I then tailor the sessions to suit what the individual has relayed. The reasons for smoking and the barriers to quitting are different for every smoker so there is no magic bullet.

I bought a hypnosis cd to stop smoking and I am now smoke free for 18 months. It was a combination of wanting to quit and learning how the brain works through hypnosis. "It's impossible to like something that taste like sh*t and kills you. Think about it." That's the thought that I had every time I had the craving.

We have a high success rate at the NYC Hypnosis Center with Smoking cessation. Why? Do we do anything different in session? NO !!! But what you do DO on the phone with the client makes all the difference in the world.

We do one session stop smoking. We reject maybe 30 percent of the callers. We ask them why they want to stop. If they say: For my health, for my wife, for my children, because I will die, because their doctor says so .... It's not going to work. It will only work for one reason. When they have the DESIRE for the results.

No matter what one says about how a habit is damaging their health ... drinkers will still drink, overeaters will still overeat, smokers will still smoke. Its not until they desire to regain control over the one area of their lives where they are no longer in control can we help them achieve their outcome to be a nonsmoker for the rest of their life ..... So ....we run through several tests ... and I tell them straight out, hypnosis CANNOT make you do something you DON'T WANT TO DO !!! We cannot force you to stop smoking.

Again ... and repetition is important (and waking hypnosis is sneaky) Hypnosis works with your desire to be free from a dangerous habit and to break the links and substitute a more healthful habit in it's place.

Sometimes telling a client on the phone ... we like to keep our success rate high...that he/she is not ready .... builds their desire. I give them some simple exercises to do in the meantime to help build that desire ... and if they achieve a modicum of success, we have them call us back, and we'll schedule them in.

A successful session can turn into many referalls.

In NYC, some hypnotists offer between 1-7 sessions to stop smoking.

The first session is a so-called consultation.

Some hypnotists charge you to sell you sessions(now .. that's good hypnosis) ... and what these hypnotists tell me, is that most clients whom have to pay in advance for 5-7 sessions, never use them (good marketing). Still here, at NYC hypnosis, we only do 1 session and we're doing pretty good.

The BIG 3 - so-called CHAIN GROUP SESSIONS that tour the country like a traveling carnival, usually have a high pressure salesman
with moderate hypnosis skills in front of the room, as the intent isn't on getting results out of the $69 group session they sold you, but holding your attention for an hour to sell you $250 a month worth of nutritional products (or tapes). You just paid $69. bucks to attend an infomercial and the wonderful guarantee is, "If the hypnosis session don't work, when they're in town again in 6 months, you can attend this paid commercial for free."

Good marketing and it nets these companies several million a year and a few percent of the REALLY MOTIVATED CLIENTS do get results, but they'd at the point where they'd get results if you wore a grass skirt and waved a voo doo doll at them or by simply going cold turkey.

Just my opinion and as you're aware, everyone has one! :)
HypnoDoc Posted - 12/24/2004 : 12:29:57 PM
It is very hard to have the strong rapport that is so helpful in Hypnosis with someone you know well. Just as in analysis it is not a good thing to work with someone that is too close to your personal situation. I have found that my audio programs are less effective on friends and family who know my voice.

As a rule most Hypnotherapists I know don't work with immediate family and close friends for just this reason. In this situation a referral to another Hypnotherapist you know and trust is a good idea.

Hi Mark, I am in the same boat so to speak, my wife being a smoker in spite of being on oxygen already, and suffering from several lung problems. Even the fact that she is poluting MY air has no deterant effect, and the fact that I have helped so many to quit in the past has no effect on her desire to do her own thing...Too bad, but we don't win all of them. Merry Christmas to you....
mark-gil Posted - 12/23/2004 : 2:36:42 PM
Hello All, I know of a hypnotherapist who gave up smoking thirty years ago and although he developed a successful "stop smoking" program, his wife continued to smoke. She stopped many times but after varying periods of time, (once for five years) she would start smoking again. It became a real bone of contention between them until her doctor tested her and told her she was in the early stages of emphasema. She never smoked again!
She told her husband the image of having a portable oxygen tank and the tubes up her nose was the clincher. Was it the fear of lung disease or her vanity or both?
With Respect and as Tiny Tim said,"MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

Hello...just a few words from me...

I quit smoking 16days ago...after hypnotherapy....

points to note
1) i wanted to stop (even though i had tried by myself before and failed)

2) i was relaxed and had an open mind about hypnosis... wasnt concerned how it worked ..just the therapist get on with it.

3) i still think about cigs... usually how happy i managed another day without the sticks..... sometimes i think i want to try 1...like a dream of something that was once fun!!...THEN I REMEMBER I STOPPED SMOKING INORDER NOT TO DAMAGE MY LUNGS ANY FURTHER...therefore smoking now would cause damage... so i don't

I was/am still very amazed that 1 session to stop actually worked so well...but maybe i will smoke in the future...but at least i can choose now, as before when i smoked, i didnt have anychoice, as a part of me 15 years ago decided smoking was someow in my own interest.

My therapist merely conversed with the part of me that was responsible for me smoking all those years ago and offered a fresh updated look at my life and gave me choices to decide if i want to smoke or not! WOW... i've said it..i think..... sort of liberated now...

love to all

Hello Anthony, Good to see someone taking action against these quick-buck artists. In the late seventies,I trained a hypnotherapist
from the midwest. He opened an office in a major city and went on to develop a stop smoking program. As time went on he continued to refine the program and was getting great results. Eventually, he decided to "take it on the road". In less than two years, he was so successful that he had nine men working circuits across the USA on commission. He had his own private airplane, private secretary and valet to travel with him. Several years later his former corporate
manager came to study with me (he had a falling-out with the boss)
He showed me the computer printouts for his five years with the company. Details of every town and city, paid attendance, tapes sold, total expenses etc. The operaton was grossing more than twenty million dollars per year!! The figures did show that with each return visit, the gross receipts grew less and less. Today, these schemes work only in small towns and are penny ante by comparison. The great American public finally caught on that they were being duped and this party is now over. With Respect to all who deserve it.

Many years ago, the City of Calgary was on such a circuit, with the offender doing the rounds twice each year. HSA had many complaints about the offered guarantee, but still he kept coming, and each time he arranged to be on a local talk show to boost the attendance. As Vice President of HSA at the time, I invited him to breakfast at his hotel, and in course of conversation, informed him that he was creating problems for local practitioners, and that if he continued to visit, I would be sitting beside him at the microphone on his next visit, to ensure that every listener got full details of what they might expect....He never returned, and I later found that he had quit the circuit for good.

Hello All, When promoters come to town with big ads assuring you that you can stop smoking in three hours, guaranteed!!! IGNORE IT! The success rate is under 10%, and those are the people who are mentally and emotionally ready to stop. They would stop if they believed a rabbit's foot was the magic charm.
In a famous case in Texas,a woman who was operating one of these
traveling carnival stop smoking in three
hours etc
, was arrested during the meeting and eventually was fined $10,000 for the following reasons.
1. Stating that the method was created by a Doctor (in reality, a woman in Wisconsin who had a mail order degree and hired several people to go on the road with her amazing method (on a commission basis). The word Doctor is treated with great respect in Texas, but it better be legitimate.
2}Stating in the ads that the method produced 97% success rate. The Attorney General held that there was no way to prove any advertised success rate.
3. Results Guaranteed (the guarantee consists of offering a free rerun of the 3 hr. method) (of course, no one is told when the scam operator will be in town again.)
The only way to be sure you won,t waste your time and money is to seek out (ask friends, etc) a reputable hypnotherapist in a fixed location ( an office in your town or nearby) who will spell out the details of a program that he/she has developed and used over a considerable period of time. A program may be one extended session with free reinforcers (if needed) or several sessions over several weeks. There are many approaches but traveling three hr. fixes are not one of them.

For those of you who don't know me, I am a hypnotherapist and teacher for fifty years, see my website at gil-boyne.com.

regarding smoking
all therapist should cheat when dealing with smokers..this will maintain a high success rate....how do you do this ?
easily.only ever see clients who WANT to give it up !!
not their wives or boyfriends etc wanting them to.but they themselves.
i agree with the comment if thjey hesitate when asked if they wish to stop and give uncertain answer ..either tell them they have a limited success rate and to call back or take their money under conditions.....

nychlsegrl,
Hypnosis is not truth serum - you won't blurt out your secrets. You'll most likely be aware of everything that goes on, most people report that they are more aware in hypnosis than out of it. Hypnosis invloves increased control - that's why it works.
Good luck!
Terry Posted - 08/29/2003 : 6:33:22 PM
Since hypnosis is NOT sleep, in spite of the name, yes you do remember all that takes place, and yes you can keep secrets, or even lie under hypnosis, it is NOT BRAIN CONTROL as some believe, unless you are reffering to the better control you have over your own brain while in the trance state. Well
3 weeks later and my friend is still not smoking.I am giving him constant reinforcement on a daily basis and this guy has quit, no doubt about it.He feels better and has a radiant glow and a constant smile on his face.

I am starting hypnotherapy to stop smoking, the person is a psychoanalist/hypnotherapist. I want to know if you are aware of what is going on durring hypnosis. Also, lets say there are things i would rather keep to myself. Would I happen to blurt things out while under hypnosis? What can i do to make sure this doesnt happen. I would rather to be able to be in control of myself durring hypnosis.

A friend of mine has made a conscious decision to stop smoking today.
Lets see how he gets on! Mind over matter is the key to this one

Miracles happen of course, but nobody can offer a guarrantee that you will quit smoking in one session, and you shouldn't expect that. We are not all from the same cookie cutter, and though some will be successful in one session, a promise that you will cease to smoke after on session is too much for me to stomach as an honest person. Expect up to four sessions, and feel lucky if you cease sooner. Terry
