Hi Patrick
For a while now I'm trying to make sense of the material written by people like Michael Newton, Brian Weiss and Dolores Cannon, however I'm neither trained nor qualified in any psychological fields.
I read your reply to a user question where you mention that Michael Newton case studies are "anecdotal" and I wonder if you could share your personal opinion and experience on PLR and LBL.
Statistically speaking too many people report similar stories, therefore it can not be ignored, yet scientifically it's neither simple nor easy to prove, therefore I ask myself if there is a possibility that perhaps those metaphysical experiences represent a way for the human brain mechanism to cope with death or self-repair?

Hello keepchar,
Like you, I believe that if a thing were able to in-arguably cure something like cancer, it would be more wide spread..
And also, like you, I believe the mind is more powerful that we sometimes give it credit for.
I've seen issues with a psychosomatic basis be "cured". I've heard of physiological issues being "cured"... and maybe those stories are true... but... I still say "show me the money".
A story is just a story. Where is the person, or people, that had their cancer cured? Where is the confirmation of the story? If she did her process with 10 random cancer sufferers, how many out of that 10 will be "cured"?
If she had this sort of confirmation I think she would have provided it in her presentation.
If her claims are valid, or not, they are still essentially worthless until verified/proven. Until then, it's just weird sounding talk, and will be seen as such by most of the world.
When people promote their weird sounding talk, they mostly succeed in creating skepticism and doubt in the professional/medical world.
What irritates me is the skepticism and doubt they create is also reflected upon the hypnosis profession as a whole. |

Thank you for your honest answer.
It does seem the mind holds answers to many situations, but few weeks ago I attended an information session with Dolores Cannon, during which she made few extraordinary claims, of which I found curing cancer very intriguing.
I think that such feat, achieved in a deep state of hypnosis -using her own technique as she described it- would have to work at a a deep cellular level.
Is the mind capable of achieving that?
She has a wealth of experience and nobody dared challenge her words or even interrupt her, but I've asked myself the question "if that is possible why is it not world wide spread", it would benefit heaps of people.
Again, in your personal opinion, do you think such 'miracle' is possible?

Sure :)
I have worked with just over 900 individual clients, multiple appointments per client and often multiple sessions per appointment.
From this, I have drawn my current opinions. Which, I understand may continue to change over time.
I have had some clients spontaneously go into a PLR or LBL. They can sound believable. They can also sound very symbolic. Maybe they can be both/either depending on the person and situation.
They only thing I can say for sure about PLR and LBL is "I don't KNOW and I don't believe anyone else can KNOW either."
What I do KNOW is that in sessions I will not intentionally look for a PLR or LBL. But, if someone does go into a PLR or LBL on their own during the session, I can apply the same analytical hypnosis techniques to it as I would with any issue and they tend to experience the intended results.
So in the end, whether it's real or it's the minds symbolic representation? I don't care. I'll work with it in the same way to address whatever the client has come to see me for. |
