Posted - 08/13/2006 : 01:54:20 AM I always had panic attacks for as long as I can remember. I used to get about 1 or two a year and I pretty much just delt with it. It was all based on my fear of throwing up. About a year ago, I bought a very popular home study course to rid myself of my anxieties and panic (which at the time were about 1 or 2 per year). After the second lesson, I started getting panic attacks every day. I couldn't go to the store, couldn't drive with anyone, and I really couldn't be in any place that I couldn't get out of quickly. I'm against medication because obviously this has something to do with the course I was studying and NOT with the chemical make up of my brain.
My question is...Will hypnosis help me? How long will it take? How will I know one way or the other?

Posted - 12/04/2012 : 08:42:18 AM Hypnosis has helped others in the past to deal with extreme physical and mental anguish (See Dr Milton Erickson's case). So it could indeed help you.
Ever since you started taking the meds, have your panic attacks (or any part of you physically) gotten worse? The reason I'm asking is because many of these drugs can result in long term side effects. |

Posted - 09/27/2012 : 3:22:01 PM When you have a panic attack it feels like extreme fear but usually there is no focus for the fear or if there is it is illogical. So it makes sense then that trying to understand your fear logically is not going to work too well as you're appealing to the wrong channel so to speak - like switching on the tv to watch your favourite programme but watching the wrong channel and wonder how it went so wrong.
It is more than likely that you will have other symptoms too that you have not even associated with your panic - insecurities, general phobias, problems with authority figures or needing to please people are just a few possibles. They are all linked together. If you get rid of one then often one of the others will get stronger. You could be chasing your tail for the rest of your life.
It is very difficult to deal with panic in a self help way and you really should try speaking to a few hypnotherapist who are experienced in analytical therapy so that you can conquer your panic instead of trying to contain it.
You don't want the symptom addressing - you want to root cause dealing with. |

Posted - 05/14/2012 : 12:07:39 PM I've suffered two panic attacks in my life - so i'm not a panic attack expert, but one of them left me in hospital and the other i felt like i was unable to breath. Luckily i had friends around me at the time. Without them there and speaking to me about it maybe.. well, i don't want to know what would have happened. I had a few issues i was confronting, but i did seek different types of thereapy. Hypno definitly worked - and without medication (i'm not into taking meds either). Highly recommend it! For me it was a gradual process of maybe 3 to 4 months of feeling less stressed and anxious (prerequisites for a panic attack i feel). |

Posted - 08/17/2006 : 1:02:21 PM As you mentioned, panic attacks can be really incapacitating. But there's a message being sent from your subconscious. The panic attack is both a symptom of an underlying problem and a terrible nuisance in itself. You will see there are many conversations (threads) already started about this issue. Most likely one of them will have information that is similar to what you seek.
