Posted - 12/21/2005 : 8:21:34 PM Hi guys,
I have a question that I feel you all may be able to give me the best possible insight within the concept.
In the same sence I may be totally off track with this concept as I have little in any, experiance or knowledge regarding hypnosis.
My thought are regarding athleteic performance and one aspect in general. Flexibility. For the general side of what I am considering I will explain a little.
Flexibility within the muscles are controlled via our nervous systems. Unlike most muscular activities our muscles when stretched dont actually get longer. Truth is they are naturally long enough but our nerves within the muscles (golgi organ) tell the body to stop. Thus making some folk more in-flexible.
For example, side splits. Most people can raise one leg onto a bench or chair at hip level with one leg going totally sideways. They can test with the other leg and it does the same thing. But when we try and put both legs into that side raised position (split) at the smae time, our nervous system does not allow it. No muscle runs from one leg to the other leg.
Now, back to my concept. If under hypnosis athletes and general people can control their emotions and other nerve controlling attributes to our lives. Is it or would it be possible to train the nervous system and the mind into thinking that it is safe to perform a full split.
Again, I am asking before I set out some studies into it.
If possible the aid for dancers, gymnasts, martial artists and all other athletes could be greatly increased.
Have a wonderful festive season.
regards

Posted - 12/21/2005 : 11:25:14 PM Hello Damien, Hypnosis achieves its' effects through the central nervous system and of course, the controller, the brain. That said, Olympic athletes have been using hypnosis for at least two decades. Some figure skating champions take their hypnotist to the Olympics and the World Championships. However, first, came the aptitude, beginning in the earlier years, diet and nutrition, long-term coaching, progressive development, ever increasing desire, willingness to pay the price, and constant support especially financially. I have worked with Olmpic boxers, figure skaters, gymnasts and professional baseball players. First, I tape interviews with the athlete and have them spell out precisely what the want to do in their competition. Then, I create scripts based on their specialized needs. For example. a figure skater knows how to describe the entry into a triple salklow jump and what edge to land on, etc. These technical aspects are incorporated into the script. Generalized scripts are meaningless and useless! I recommend the books Sports Psyching and Winning the Mind Game. Both are available from westwoodpublishingco.com ----With Respect, Gil Boyne |
