Posted - 09/04/2005 : 10:52:57 PM A person I know is using hypnosis to brainwash and control a female friend of mine. This is very serious. She is absolutely unreceptive to anything that anyone says to her, except him. What I need is an effective way to break the hypnotic suggestions that he has given her. Anyone who can help please email, IM, or post a responce, please! I do not want to "re-hypnotize" her, unless that is the only way. I want to UN-Hypnotize her. |

Posted - 09/08/2005 : 3:20:52 PM You are absolutely correct of course. A therapist who can command $250.00 per hour of therapy, should have known better than to bother replying to your post. I did indeed spot the problem, and quoted it correctly, but I should have known that if it didn't fit it would have no value for you, and I apologise for taking up your time. I will leave it to hypnodoc to waste his, since I have other persons needing my time, and willing to follow my advice. I do however extend my sympathy to your friend. |

Posted - 09/08/2005 : 12:05:02 AM What you describe sounds more like a cult than a Hypnotist gone bad. From what you say it sounds as if a cult rescue group may be able to assist. Depending on everyone's age in this whole thing, your friend's parents may be able to contact one of these groups to extract her and do an intervention (reverse brainwashing). There is nothing that we would be able to do or recommend from within our Hypnosis Forum that would be of any help to you as it would appear that nothing to do with Hypnosis is going on. Perhaps search on the Internet for "Cult rescue" or something like that to find a group that may be discussing these types of things. I am sure there are many of them out there. (Google returns over 1.6 million results)
I think the point Anthony was trying to make was that you were confusing some form of brainwashing with Hypnosis and there was nothing in your story that had anything to do with hypnosis. It would be as if you went into a Cult Rescue Forum and asked them for advice on how to lose weight with hypnosis.
Good luck with your friend's situation. |

Posted - 09/07/2005 : 10:45:17 PM actually i was speaking more to anthony. this as well: my view on the situation is well-founded. I lived with this girl for three years and i know her very well, and on many levels. and i know that many of you will think that i am just a jealous ex-boyfriend and base your replies on that, but dont bother. because we decided a long time ago to be friends, and have been best friends through a lot of ****. right up until she moved in with him, for reasons that had nothing to do with him. regardless of whether hypnosis is directly involved or not, she is living with 10-11 people, who all have moderate to severe mental problems. I dont want to lose my friend to these wackos. I am in contact with her family as well, and they feel the same way i do. and Anthony, "it is better to let people think you are a fool, than to open your mouth and prove it." |

Posted - 09/06/2005 : 4:33:41 PM To answer your initial question - hypnosis is a state and one does not wander around in the state 100% of the time. So in regard to this exact situation: Hypnosis may or may not be involved. Drugs may or may not be involved. Love may or may not be involved. Great sex may or may not be involved.
The story of Svengali is from a novel – fiction - a made up story. There have been other reports of this type of behavior through the years as documented here.
The bottom line is that this Ultra-Hypnotic control was only really used in Stage shows (which may or may not have been pretend / theatre) to entertain the audience with the idea that a beautiful young woman could be made to do anything. This was pretty titillating stuff years ago. Since the Svengali novel, movie and these stage shows, it has been exceedingly hard to demystify Hypnosis as an evil, all-controlling force and in fact, most people still believe Svengali to be a true story.

Posted - 09/06/2005 : 2:33:34 PM When you meddle in the lives of others, and make unsubstantiated statements of drug use etc, you leave yourself open to charges, I hope you realise that? To date, you have offered nothing that might suggest your posting to this board would be of any help. Are you a skilled practitioner? Of course you aren't, you don't even offer proof that hypnosis is involved. In fact you tend to discount it since your friend has obvious mental problems which would negate against hypnosis being effective. Stop meddling, and get a life, your friend is entitled to hers...... |

Posted - 09/06/2005 : 1:23:38 PM The person that is doing the hypnosis is not a professional. He is her 'boyfriend'. I know it is hypnosis because (1) he did it to his last girlfriend, and (2) before she slept over at his house, she had no attraction to him whatsoever, in fact she was rather repulsed by him. He has a mental disorder similar to megalomania, among many others. he gets off on controlling people. He has her programed not to talk to or listen to anyone but him, so she couldn't ask for help if she did want to. She is a very good friend of mine who i grew up with. I want very much to help her, or to get her professional help. She has bi-polar dissorder or something similar. Or possibly PTSD, or both. She won't speak to a profession b/c she is a repressive denier, and highly impressionable due to her mental state. The 'hypnotist' may or may not(but probably is) using addictive substances (ie. cocaine, meth) to keep her from leaving. How can I get her away from him (without doing anything too illegal)? -lostsoul815 |

Posted - 09/06/2005 : 12:06:06 AM OK, I will bite.
Please give us more information. Is this person that is doing the Hypnosis a professional? How do you know it is Hypnosis? How are your related to the female friend? How do you know she wants help? Is the person doing the hypnotizing the leader of a cult, her new boyfriend or a stage hypnotist who had a show locally? Please give us more to go on. |
