Can hypnosis help with the treatment of depression? I have been suffering from depression for several years it seems to come and go depending on what is happening in my life. My mother died when I was 11 and I have been to several consulars for violent behaviors when I was growing up and thay all tried to blame my problems on that in our first few session and never really look at other causes. I am now 31 years old and have just recently ended a "Jerry Springer" relationship of 11 on and off years. I have spoken to my doctor about my depreesion and he put me on an anti-depressant and recently put me on Xanax. About a year ago I resorted to smoking pot again and this is something that I havn't done for years but it has really helped me stay calm. I know it sounds like an excuss but I fell I have had a better relationship with my 2 children since I have started smoking it. I do not want to continue to do this that is why I went to my doctor and he gave me the Xanax but I havn't received the same results from that as I do from the pot. I keep having break downs where I cry uncontrolably and can't stop for a while.I concider suicide but I am affraid of the unknow and affraid what will happen to my kids if I am not part of ther lives. I guess I need some help in knowing what direction do I go from here. I am on the edge of financial trouble at this time as well which doesn't help my depression either and limits mw on what help I fell I can get. If there are any suggestions please help.

Yes, hypnotherapy would be helpful if applied by a skilled person, and of no value if used by the unskilled. As for cost, it is unlikely that you will get help for free, since that which is given without return is rarely valued, but you may find it possible to do a deal with a local. Nobody can help you from a distance... |

It's been five years and i hope your doing better. I'm wondering if you have tried hypnosis to cure your depression and has it worked for you. I truely hope that you are well.

Sounds really awful. But you are doing the right thing by looking for support.
Hypnotherapy alone is unlikely to deal effectively with your depression. It can help you to improve your life considerably in terms of self-esteem, peace and better relationships, but it sound as though you really need to look again at working with a psyhcotherapist or counsellor to examine the underlying issues.
I appreciate that your childhood experiences of therapy were very disappointing. Unfortunately this was not uncommon (at least here in the UK) in the past; therapy has moved on a long way in the last twenty years. I don't know where you are. If you are in the UK, then work with your GP and ask about therapy to support the anti-depressants. If there is a long waiting-list for counselling on the NHS you would probably be wise to seek a private therapist if you can afford it. Persevere with the drug therapy; it takes a while to have an effect.
