I have had good success in using hypnosis on my wife to help her realx, (I talk her through a massage and she comes out feeling like she had a massage) and some light pain control for daily pains.
I am having problems in getting her to talk while hypnotized. I can get her to do the finger move, one finger for yes and another for no. But I have not been able to get her to verbaly respond back to me.
Any ideas on how I can work on this would be much appreciated.

Might look at changing your verbage - a hypnotist does not have a "subject". The person experiencing the hypnosis has much more control over the session than the person leading the hypnosis. You can't "make" her talk either.
I can venture some educated guesses -
1. She doesn't want to talk. :)
maybe she's afraid talking will "disrupt" the sense of relaxation.
maybe she doesn't want to talk with you. (working with friends and family can be tough for lots of reasons)
2. She is not "able" to talk.
if very relaxed/hypnotized, a person can find it very difficult to use their voice.
During the hypnosis, might try suggestions about hypnosis being the mental relaxation she has. And she can keep that good feeling and still talk, experiment.
Anyway, that's what I think based off of your description.
