4.0.1 An Instant Download ZIP file - what is that?
Zip files (file ending of .zip) are single files, sometimes called "archives" that contain one or more compressed files. Zip files make it easy to keep related files together and make transporting, e-mailing, downloading and storing data and software faster and more efficient. The Zip format is the most popular compression format used in the Windows environment.
Windows XP and Vista have a built in ZIP program. Simply click on the ZIP file and it will open in a new window - on the left panel of that window will be a link to "Extract all files" - this then gives you the option to decide what folder you would like the un-compressed (unzipped) files stored.
Inside the ZIP file is your audio MP3 file. It has the extension (file ending of .mp3). Since MP3 is a compressed file already there will not be much of a difference in the file size from the ZIP to the unzipped MP3 file.
There are many free programs available on the Internet - just do a search for "ZIP UNZIP" in any search engine to find them. The link that follows is for one of the most common program for this "WinZip." You can download and use the free version right from their web site.
