Hello all
I just joined. I am from India. I read Joseph Murphy's book "The power of your subconscious mind" sometime back and I want to try visualisation technique given there. Basically you go into relaxed sleepy state and give instructions to your subconscious mind. I have been suffering from anxiety for many years. So I have trouble relaxing and going into this sleepy state. One hypnotist here in mumbai suggested to me that I should first try relaxation techniques like guided meditation, so that I am ready to begin self hypnosis. I want to ask people here how long does it take to get cured using guided meditation. I really want to use self-hypnosis for some personal growth.

There are many ways to get results with self hypnosis, and many have suggested wonderful ways to do so.

If you know how to put yourself in a trance, you can create a recording and let it delay or 2 minutes and you'll be listening to the suggestions while 'hopefully' in trance.

It is too bad such an interesting thread is ignored by so many people. It is a shame. Especially by those interested in self-hypnosis. It is inexpensive to get good information and learning how to become proficient in self-hypnosis. It has changed many people for the better, that is why there are good programs to learn how to self-hypnotize. Wake up hypo Forum and participate with your posts!

atisundar, get a good book about Self-Hypnosis. I have one by my bed and read it often. Expect it to be constructive and it has been, but not over night. One thing you need to do is "be patient" with yourself as you are self-hypnotizing yourself. Anxiety is generated if you are going to continue to think about whatever is causing your anxiety. replace it with other thoughts. read a book. My choice is "Mind Secrets Exposed 2.0" I know this seems self-serving, but I like t his book and feel comfortable recommending it to others. that are serious about helping themselves when dealing with a situation (sleep, weight, smoking, etc.) http://tinyurl.com/lzer6y3 Good luck, it is exciting you are actively searching for answers.

I think the best way is to let a professional handle it. That doesn't mean in person, but even a recording/mp3 that you can use to put you in a trance and give you suggestions.

Try recording your own voice reading it a hypnosis script or ask a friend to read it to you.

Self-hypnosis is inducing your own hypnotic trance. It is not something that is as simple as describing in a post. If your read around this forum there is a LOT of info. Also, this site has audios available that will help you learn self-hypnosis.

I agree, with discipline and perseverance, you will get results. Find yourself a good technique you enjoy and stick to it. However, I think one CAN learn self-hypnosis in an afternoon; its the results that may take longer to obtain when you start out... The best of luck to you.

Self hypnosis is not something you can learn in one afternoon, but if you are consistent and really want to learn the technique you can expect to notice first changes after two - three weeks.
Anxiety can be cured in a great way with self hypnosis, my personal experience was improvement after about a month of consistent self hypnosis. I suffered from strong agoraphobia which I completely got rid of with regular self hypnosis.

The results of self-hypnosis are very subtle at first. Be mindful of small changes in your behavior. It will encourage you to keep at it.

I've tried self-hypnosis myself. It takes a lot of discipline, effort, and perserverance, but if you keep at it, it will become easier over time. Meditation also takes persistence. I suggest you learn about it, research it, and practice! Just keep doing it every day if you can and you will train you mind to be at peace. Don't give up!

It can take a very long time.. or it can take just a couple attempts... it will depend on the reasons for your anxiety: physiological? Medication side effects? Behavioral? And, if behavioral, what is/are the core issue(s) behind it. Self-hypno suggestions will only be as effective as the behavior you are working "against" will allow them to be.

By the way, meditation and self-hypno are going to be very similar mental states.
