Texas is one of the very few states that use hypnosis in crinimal cases. Texas law enforcement officers must take a specially designed course and receive a certificate before they can use it. Check for Supreme Courts decision in your state. US Supreme Court US has set guidelines for its use. In almost every every state the hypnotic work MUST be done by a licensed mental health specialist (psychiatrist). A renowned expert in the field is Marx Howell in Texas. Google his name and contact him before taking a course. I highly recommend the book, Hypnosis and the Law written by a polygraph expert/ hypnotherapist. Available at westwoodpublishingco.com--$20.00

I have been in law enforcement for almost 40 yrs. in the past I have not used my forensic hypnosis once in any police related incidents. This due to the fact that each state has different court rulings on the subject. Mostly forensic hypnosis is like the polygraph, not admissible in court and open to attack, not proven scientifically.
It is said that psychologists should be the only ones to conduct these types of investigations however, they are not trained police officers that know police practices and procedures, rules of evidence, or how to properly conduct an interview. Because of this, cases are thrown out of court. The only exception is in Texas where they are police professionals and have adequate training, and do it right. Forensic hypnosis is rarely used any where else, I know that in NJ, forget it. The best bet is to work for lawyers that want to get information regarding accidents or witness/victim information. This leads them in the right direction to further their client investigations. For working with police departments, forget it! Better off doing CSI work, or work with a PI.
